Fog, Baby Birds & Bookworms: Sophie’s Session Was Wild (Literally)

Alright, friends—gather ‘round because I’ve got a story. A real early morning, fog-so-thick-you-can-barely-see, spiderweb-in-the-face kind of story.

Meet Sophie—a Northview senior and one of my incredible 2026 senior influencers. She’s smart, sweet, and a major lover of books. Like… not a casual, “I read Colleen Hoover once and now I’m a reader” kind of love. No. Sophie is deep in the book trenches. The girl reads like she breathes.

Now, here’s the kicker: she recently discovered she’s not like the 95% of us who play books like movies in our heads. Which led to a very hilarious moment of me standing there, trying to process what it’s like to read without casting a full mental Netflix original. Like ma’am… what do you see? Just words?! How is your brain not directing a full cinematic masterpiece with mood lighting and a soundtrack?? We had a solid giggle over that one.

Let’s talk about this session.

We kicked things off at 6:30AM. I repeat: six. thirty. in. the. morning. Which is when normal people are still wrapped like burritos in their blankets and hitting snooze. But not us. Oh no. We were in full glam mode. And let me tell you—the FOG was THICK. Like, couldn’t-see-my-camera-settings thick. At first, I was like, “Mmm… not sure about this.” But then it started giving cinematic dream sequence and honestly? It became a whole dang vibe.

There were deer hopping around like it was a Disney movie intro, but then BOOM—plot twist: we hit the part of the trail that looked like a full-on horror film. I’m talking spiderwebs EVERYWHERE. Floating in the fog, glistening in the light, one of them might’ve whispered my name, I don’t know. I was dodging, ducking, weaving… questioning my life choices… all while Sophie was just peacefully glowing and posing like we weren’t on the set of Arachnophobia 2: The Senior Session.

Sophie’s mom came along and was such a trooper. Like, MVP status. We were doing a lot of walking (yes, I might’ve “accidentally” led us down a nature trail I didn’t totally map out beforehand… classic Heather), and she kept up like a champ. But what really got me in the feels? She brought a handmade blanket—one that Sophie’s grandparents made with love, stitch by stitch. Her papa has since passed on, and including that blanket in a few quiet, meaningful shots nearly wrecked me. THAT is why I do what I do. Capturing those pieces of our people. That legacy. That connection.

We ended the session in this magical little pathway with a birdhouse, which felt like something out of a storybook. And no, we are not nature people. But apparently we were that day. Because get this—baby birds were nesting inside the birdhouse. Would we have known? Absolutely not. But shoutout to the park ranger who casually dropped that info like we weren’t already pretending to be birdwatching pros.

Sophie—your soul is something else. You’re curious, kind, beautifully bookish, and full of quiet depth. I loved every second of our foggy adventure (minus the webs—my therapist will be hearing about that). You’re going to move through life with such a gentle, powerful presence, and I cannot wait to watch you take on the world—whether that’s through stories you read, ones you write, or the one you’re living
